Your Identity is in Jesus, not PRs
Can you remember the last time you felt the joy of accomplishing a fitness goal you had?
Hitting a PR?
Winning a competition?
Crossing over a weight loss milestone?
Getting a positive report from your doctor?
Being able to come off of a certain medication?
These are incredible things.
They should be celebrated.
But idolizing these things is dangerous.
It’s exactly what Satan wants.
He wants us to get our minds set on ourselves.
He wants us to obsess over our lives.
He wants us to be prideful in our accomplishments.
He wants us to worship our self-discipline.
He wants us to try to satisfy our deepest needs with temporary things.
Take satisfaction in a job well done.
But keep accomplishments in their proper place.
Don’t make them your ultimate joy.
Don’t make them what you live for each day.
Don’t make them your identity.
Don’t make them what you talk about to people all the time.
Because what would happen if all those things went away tomorrow?
You get paralyzed in an accident and can’t work out any more?
The scale starts going in the opposite direction?
The sharp physique starts to soften?
Finding meaning in life apart from Jesus will crush you.
Jesus is the only one that gives meaning to our lives.
You might lose a competition…
You might lose a job…
You might lose a relationship…
But for those in Christ, making more of God’s glory on Earth is ALWAYS an option.
And nothing will satisfy our deepest needs like living out that calling.
Don’t forget who you are.
Your true identity is a Child of God.
Your true purpose is to declare His glory.
Our minds are quick to forget.
Meditate on these truths often.
God loves you, my friend.
