When The Gym Is A Waste Of Time…

I received a lot of criticism over a recent social media post I made.

I’m not changing my stance.

But want to further explain a few things.

And respond to the major criticisms.

👇 This was my claim…

Lifting weights and going to the gym is a total waste of time IF you aren’t doing it for God.

Yes. Really.

Sit with it for a bit.

If you’re going to the gym for better health and to live longer…

Why does that matter if you still end up in the same grave as someone who didn’t take care of themselves?

You’re wasting your time if you don’t have a deeper purpose.

You’re wasting your time if you’re not doing it for God.

❌ “I just do it for fun because I enjoy it.

I mean that’s fine, I’m not stopping you.

But have you considered there may be a purpose and joy even beyond what you’re currently experiencing?

👉 If you shift your eyes from yourself to the One who created you to experience joy, you’ll find more.

❌ “I just go to become a better version of myself. I don’t need God to do that. I have my own moral compass.

That’s a contradicting statement.

If God doesn’t exist…

Morals are relative…

There are no moral absolutes…

And “better” and “worse” don’t exist.

Going to the gym doesn’t make you a better person than someone that pigs out on food.

And you certainly better not tell an overweight person to lose weight.

You’re just “different.”

Both doing what you like most.

Same as murderers, predators, and rapists.

Getting fitter doesn’t make you a better version of yourself.

Just different than 6 months ago.

👇

We need moral absolutes so that we can know what is right and wrong.

So that we can have any grounds to guide and encourage others.

And moral absolutes, by definition, can’t come from humans.

👉 Therefore, we need God.

Or else we aren’t really becoming better versions of ourselves.

Just…different :)

✅ “Okay…so how do I get fit for God?

Worship - acting outwardly on the love you have for God.

Stewardship - understanding your body isn’t your own, it was given to you by God, and you’re just trying to take good care of the gift.

Equipping - making intentional decisions about your body that prepare you to serve God and others.

Okay…this is a tough topic.

It steps on my toes.

It probably is stepping on yours.

Don’t run away from it.

Keep chewing on it.

And please don’t take my word for it.

Open your Bible and decide for yourself.

I believe the whole reason we have this “itch” to live healthier is because God designed us that way.

Dedicate your entire life to Him - He’s where the joy is!
