You want to lose weight.

You want it to be a healthy weight loss.

First off - I’m proud of you, and I’m cheering you on! :)

But let’s clarify right away what that should mean.

WHAT IS HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS:

Steady and controlled decrease in weight over time.

HOW TO HAVE HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS:

Moderate calorie deficit - created by slightly decreasing calorie intake and increasing calorie output through exercise.

Quality nutrition is emphasized heavily.

WHY TO DO HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS:

Steward well the body that God has entrusted you. Not just to achieve a personal goal, but so that you are more equipped to do the work He calls you to.

👇 Let’s make this practical

…and check out the low calorie stir fry I made the other night :)

First — what NOT to do…

🚫 Don’t chase extremes

Crash diets, detox teas, and “miracle” plans may promise fast results, but they typically wreck your metabolism, hormones, and relationship with food.

🚫 Don’t rely on motivation alone

Motivation is very unreliable. Systems, habits, and accountability are what carry you through.

🚫 Don’t treat food like the enemy

Food is fuel. Nutrients equip your body. Everything can fit in a smart diet plan. Demonizing food creates guilt, impedes important body functions, and increases stress.

🚫 Don’t compare your journey

Your body, history, genetics, and lifestyle are totally unique. Comparison robs you of fully experiencing the reason God has you on this journey.

Now — what TO do…

Eat less

Not starvation. Not misery. Just consistently eating slightly smaller amounts than normal, practicing self control, and embracing a little hunger.

Walk more

Totally underrated for weight loss. More movement alleviates a lot of pressure on eating less, and also strengthens your heart and lungs.

Prioritize strength training

Muscle protects your longevity, shapes your physique, and makes long-term fat loss incredibly easier.

Eat plenty of protein

Muscle can’t maintain or grow without it. Protein also helps balance blood sugar, reduce cravings, and keep you fuller longer - just make it fit within your total calorie intake.

Focus on habits, not hacks

Sleep. Stress. Consistency. Structure. These win every time.

Why this matters Biblically…

1️⃣ Your body is not an afterthought

It needs priority, attention, and care.

It’s the vessel through which God does His work. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

And excess weight will limit your ability to respond to God’s calling. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)

Pursuing body stewardship creates:

• Energy to serve

• Discipline that spills into other areas

• Clarity of mind

• Strength for your calling

• Obedience to a loving Father

Neglect, gluttony, and passivity don’t just affect your waistline.

They affect your capacity.

2️⃣ Your body is a gift

Imagine you let someone borrow your car for a few days.

When they returned it to you, the frame was scratched, a mirror was broken, the seats were ripped up, food was spilled everywhere, and it smelled like smoke.

If I had to guess, you wouldn’t be too happy.

👉 Is that how you’ll return your body to God one day?

He’s full of grace, but why take advantage of that?

And if you’d rather take advantage of His grace, do you really love Him?

If you read this far, know that I appreciate you, I love you as a brother in Christ, and I pray this encourages you.
