Laziness vs. Tiredness - Why The Difference Matters

I was talking to a client the other day about laziness versus tiredness.
It made me realize too many Christians can’t tell the difference.
👉 And that’s a bigger problem than you may think.
Laziness says, “I could, but I won’t.”
Tiredness says, “I want to, but I’m running on empty.”
You MUST know the difference so that you can steward your body correctly and effectively.
😤 When you’re “LAZY” but say you’re “TIRED”, you end up…
Not changing, when you totally could
Resisting discomfort, when that strengthens your faith
🥱 When you’re “TIRED” but say you’re “LAZY”, you end up…
Responding with guilt, not wisdom
Silencing important body signals, and creating anxiety
So how do you know the difference?
Ask yourself better questions.
(And really sit with these for a minute!)
👉 “Am I physically depleted — or mentally resistant?”
👉 “Do I need rest — or do I need to start moving?”
🔵 Genuine LAZINESS is…
Fleeing discomfort
Resisting change
Ignoring responsibility
🟢 Genuine TIREDNESS is…
Lacking true rest
Missing quality nutrition
Ignoring body signals
So how do you fix each one?
🔵 Fix LAZINESS by…
Confronting your feelings
Renewing your mind with God’s word
Establishing your purpose and identity
Finding accountability
Starting small, reasonably, and maintainably
🟢 Fix TIREDNESS by…
Grabbing fruits and vegetables, not caffeine
Drinking water, not sugar
Prioritizing quality rest
Protecting quiet time
Simplifying your schedule
Not every low-energy day is true laziness.
And not every skipped effort is true fatigue.
Learning the difference frees you from guilt and protects you from excuses.
🚀 So that God’s temple is stewarded better.
