How To Beat Late-Night Snacking

It's been a long day.

You're tired.

Time to chill on the couch.

But first...let me grab a little something from the kitchen.

Something sweet.

No, maybe something salty.

"Ugh, but I'm supposed to be watching what I eat."

"Maybe just a couple bites of something..."

"It really has been a long day..."

❌ Pretty soon...you've downed 500 calories.

We've all been here.

And it's so frustrating.

👉 So how do we beat the urge to late-night snack?

1️⃣ Stay Busy.

We often want to snack because we're bored. So don't let yourself get bored.

Don't just watch TV.

Do a crossword or low-stress game during the show.

Fold laundry.

Do some simple and easy cleaning.

Or, turn off the TV.

Invest in your spiritual health.

Journal.

Read.

Talk to your spouse or significant other.

Go on a relaxing walk.

Just...don't be bored.

2️⃣ If You Snack...Plan It Out

Never sit down to an entire bag or carton of anything.

That's a recipe for disaster.

Go into the kitchen and make a plan for exactly what you're going to have.

Portion it into a bowl.

Set your boundaries.

Learn to be content.

Better yet, plan ahead for this as a "meal" and not a "reactionary snack."

Go throughout your day knowing that you'll eat a certain "snack" later in the day.

Adjust your calories at your other meals to make up for it.

3️⃣ Give Jesus 8 Seconds

Sometimes you have great intentions...

But the temptation to binge is mentally so unbearable.

Feels like you have to give in.

In those moments...

Give Jesus 8 seconds.

Don't act or move or do anything.

Just close your eyes and focus on Jesus for 8 seconds.

Then return to reality and look at your temptation again.

When you call on His name, He will help you. :)

Remember…

👉 This is about better stewardship of the body God gave you.

Stewardship often requires...

Wisdom.

Self-control.

Self-denial.

Contentment.

🔥The Lord is your portion - not food.

Hope this helps!
